The Morning After.

Our first night in Budapest was a disaster, but our first day turned out to be a success. We went on a FREE guided walking tour of the city. It was amazing, our guide was funny, told us about the history, culture, politics, economics, and gave us tips on where to eat and hang out cheaply. By far the best city tour and orientation I've been on...and it was free. Apparently on the surface Budapest is a cosmopolitan and modern Western city, but it is full of corruption, bureaucracy and shitty economic policies. The average income of a Hungarian is 500 Euros a month, and living expenses are high.

We were also informed of Hungarian cuisine. Apparently gulash isn't that authentic and is just a marketing ploy. What is authentic is: beef stew, pork stew, lamb stew, sausages, blood sausage, garlic sausage, potatoes....layered with meat, cabbage with meat, meat with meat, sausage with meat, meat, meat, more meat and more sausage. Oh, and lard is used with everything. So if you're vegetarian.....I guess you can eat mushroom soup...and potatoes? Looks like I'll be eating potatoes and bread in Eastern Europe...hmmm, carbs.

  1. I love that Jen's shoes are for walking and yours are for style.

I'm sure they were comfy too. Nice find by the way.
